To celebrate the launch of my website I’m making available for free a WordPress theme called BlackSplat that I made last year in association with Tim Holt, a web developer with some mad skills.
Mainly…
It’s a simple theme, really, and is compatible with WP 2.6. It has also been tested on IE6, IE7, Firefox 2+, Opera and Safari. I thought about adding some cool things like featured posts, thumbnail navigation and some cool scripting effects but I ended up thinking it was more accessible this way, as a simple and traditional blog layout.
I will take into account special requests though, and could turn it into a more complex theme; although I might as well just release another new one from scratch later on.
Download and/or try it out…
The theme is available over at the official WordPress theme directory. The most recent version will always be over there. You can also try it out live right here and download it here (current version: 1.7).
Changelog…
1.7: Defined the custom gravatar shown to be local to your installation, as suggested by Alex (thanks!). You can modify the default gravatar to show by uploading your desired gravatar.gif image to the ‘images’ folder of the theme.
Installation…
To install the theme, first unzip the files and then upload the entire BlackSplat_wr folder to wp-content/themes. Then go to your WP admin panel, under the ‘Design’ tab and then under ‘Themes’, and then click on the BlackSplat theme. Activate it!
Fine prints!
This theme is available for free and you can use it for commercial or personal purposes. You can read the GPL license that comes with the theme for more info, or just contact me if you have any questions. And please refrain from using the theme for websites dedicated to: pornography/adult sites, warez, drugs and anything encouraging offensive//illegal behavior…
Credits
I ask that you kindly keep the credits intact. If you wish to take them off and still show some acknowledgment, it would be sweet of you to proceed with a donation of your choice (any amount, really, we all have different budgets).
Support
This free WordPress theme is provided as is and, although I’d love to tweak it and make it perfect for each and every user out there, I simply can’t provide individual support for everybody. So if you have a general question, that you think could be helpful for other users too, please address your support question through the comments option below or head out to the official WP support forum. I will do my best to follow through. And if you have a particular requirement or request, and would like to hire me so that we can work on it together, please give me a shout so we can talk about it. This is how support will be working here, for the time being.
Thanks!!!

Hi Sam,
Regarding my previous post, would you mind, if I adapt it to suit my requirement and use it.
Thanks
-Ankur
Yes, no problem! Let me know how it goes!
can you tell me how to remove the search box at the top of the theme?
Hi,
to do this, you need to manually modify the header.php file. In this file, find the “search” division and delete it. That should do it. Best of luck!

Hi Sam,
I am creating a blogging platform and need to adapt BlackSplat for it. However, I need options for Sign In | Sign Up to be present as well in the theme. I just need the HTML, CSS and images only (not the PHP or .Net code.) Of course it would be mentioned that theme is created by you. Is this possible?
Thanks for consideration.
Regards,
Ankur
Hi Ankur,
unfortunately, I don’t have the html/css version of the theme; it was done right away as a WP theme.
Best of luck, let me know how it goes!
